McMenomy Approved As EJMS Assistant Principal
Derelle McMenomy has been approved as the new assistant principal at East Jackson Middle School, following a vote by the Board of Education on Monday afternoon. McMenomy will begin her new position this month.
“We are delighted to welcome Ms. McMenomy to our leadership team here at East Jackson Middle School,” EJMS Principal Johnathan Harris said. “Ms. McMenomy has been an asset to our school system throughout her career, most recently serving in our district office as a math specialist. Ms. McMenomy will play an integral role in continuing to build on the momentum we have built here at EJMS.”
McMenomy currently serves as the Jackson County School System’s Secondary Math Specialist, a position she has held since 2022. McMenomy has been employed with the system since 2006 where she was a math teacher and competition cheerleading coach at Jackson County High School. She was named the Jackson County High School Teacher of the Year in 2009 and was a SSTAGE Star Award recipient in 2020.
McMenomy moved to West Jackson Middle School in 2018 where she taught Algebra and Physical Science on a STEAM team and then served as the school’s instructional coach for three years and MTSS Coordinator for one year. Throughout her career, McMenomy has worked on various projects, including writing and reviewing testing questions, reviewing state standards for NAVVY, Pearson and DGC Ed Consultants.
“I am truly honored to join the team at East Jackson Middle School as the new assistant principal. I have loved getting to know the East Side community better in my role as a math specialist, and have been inspired by the wonderful teachers and students at EJMS,” McMenomy said. “ I am excited to join their team as we strive to help students access their full potential in a fun and nurturing environment. Go Eagles."
McMenomy earned a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics Education from the University of Georgia and a Master’s of Arts in Education from Piedmont College.
